In a group of up to 6 participants, you will be led through the Guided Autobiography (GAB) process to create your autobiography, two pages at a time. Along the way you will have opportunities for personal growth and connection with others on the same path. The group setting gives you structure for your writing and turns a solitary process into a social experience.

Each week, you will be introduced to a new writing theme reflecting common experiences such as your family, culture and heritage, your career, relationships and passions. In each two-hour GAB session you will be given topics and activities to spark your creativity, tap into memories and increase self-awareness.

Between classes you will write up to 1000 words on how the theme has played out in your life and share that story with the other participants in the next class. You only share what you are comfortable with sharing.

GAB session structure:

Guided Autobiography sessions run for two hours.

  • The first hour is dedicated to discussing a life-writing theme, engaging in stimulating exercises to spark creativity and trigger memories and also doing some brief writing exercises.

  • The second hour is dedicated to sharing stories. Participants are invited to share whatever part of their writing they feel comfortable with sharing.

Confidentiality is strongly emphasized in GAB groups. Group members are invited to give each other respectful feedback and ask clarifying questions without critiquing the reader’s writing skills or their experiences.

Classes are available online via Zoom and in person. If you are interested in joining a Guided Autobiography Class or hosting a GAB series in your community please contact me for more information.
