Stress and Axiety Counselling

Coping with Stress and Anxiety

It is normal to feel nervous or stressed before an important event or a difficult situation but anxiety is different. Anxiety is often more intense, long-lasting and can interfere with your everyday life. Everyone is unique and because of that, anxiety will be experienced differently by all of us. In fact, it can range from being mildly disruptive to being completely overwhelming.

If you have high anxiety it can feel like tension, an increased heart rate, a restricted throat or chest and an overall feeling of unease. Your mind might go into circles of worry with obsessive thoughts, fears and maybe even doubts about your ability to cope. If you find yourself experiencing some of these negative effects, anxiety counselling can really help.

Stress & Anxiety counselling

Some other symptoms of anxiety are:

- restlessness
- irritability
- concentration difficulties
- sleep difficulties
- avoidance of particular people, places or things
- various fears

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health complaints in North America.

It can impact how you react to stress, deal with emotions, engage with others and how you feel in your body.

How to deal with Panic Attacks

For some people anxiety can escalate to the point of a panic attack. These attacks tend to be brief but can be very sudden, occurring with or without a trigger. This can be very destabilising.  Anxiety counselling can help you to deal with the root causes of the panic and give you resources for dealing with it long term.

Social Anxiety

Do you feel anxious when you’re around people? Do you worry that people are judging you, will reject you or think less of you? This is social anxiety and it is very common. For some people, it prevents them from going to gatherings, looking people in the eye or making social connections. The good news is that anxiety counselling can help you move beyond social anxiety and into greater confidence, freedom and stability.

Instead of pushing anxiety away or muscling through the discomfort, anxiety counselling can help you develop coping skills and strategies so that you can find increased stability, calm and clarity. Although many people struggle with anxiety, we are all individuals and need a treatment plan that fits who we are. Together we will explore your specific situation, your history, patterns and what you are hoping to achieve. The true aim is lasting change and not just Band-Aid solutions.
